The St. Thomas Music Guild began seven years ago after Jackie Stilger,
former St. Thomas Parish Musician, played a concert to celebrate the restoration
of the congregation’s exquisite Skinner organ. The light went on for Chris Yaw,
then associate rector of the parish.  During his years living in California,
Yaw had enjoyed attending free concert series.

In 2003 he gathered together a group of music loving folks
(now the St. Thomas Music Guild) and proposed offering a free series
here in Battle Creek.  Building on that first season’s experience, the Music Guild has
each year since, offered a broad spectrum of musical and other artistic experiences free of charge.
Thanks to this dedicated group of people, concert goers have enjoyed such varied performers
as Grammy Award winning flutist Rhona Larson, New York cabaret performer Francesca Amari,
Celtic band Whiskey Before Breakfast, The Mandolin Orchestra, vocalist Gerald Blanchard,
and story teller LeRon Williams.

The free concert series are made possible by the contributions of St. Thomas Music Guild members, donations by other "angels", and money dropped into the offering plate at the concerts.
